In today’s Christmas Day Special Article we talk about the True Meaning Of Christmas.
What makes Christmas so beautiful, not only for Christians but for everybody??
True Meaning Of Christmas
Today let us understand the true significance of Christmas.Christmas is celebrated as the birth of Lord Jesus Christ.
The Bible says in Luke 1 verse 26 to 33 “Now the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city in Galilee called Nazareth, to a virgin engaged to a man whose name was Joseph, of the descendants of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary. And coming in, he said to her, “Greetings, favored one! The Lord is with you.” But she was very perplexed at this statement, and kept pondering what kind of salutation this was. The angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; for you have found favor with God. “And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name Him Jesus. “He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David , and He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and His kingdom will have no end,”
Further the Bible says in John 3: 16-17
For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him.”
These verses from bible describe the true significance of Christmas. It says that mankind sinned and went away from God but God in his unconditional love for mankind, decided to send his only son to bear the burden of the sins of mankind on the cross and reconcile man with his creator (God) again.
It is a story of God humbling himself as a child and being born of the Virgin Mary. Jesus and only Jesus is the reason for the season and gives the true meaning to Christmas. Jesus was God in flesh, perfect, pure and holy. He came to fulfil the divine plan of God, which was to take upon him the burden of the sins of mankind and die for the redemption of mankind. Jesus paid the price in full and so anybody who accepts him lives a life knowing that God has forgiven our sins and loves us unconditionally. In Christmas, God the father has demonstrated his unconditional love towards mankind by sending his only son into this world.
As we understand the depth of the Father’s unconditional love, we rejoice and are thankful to God for the gift of Jesus in our lives. Jesus is called “Yeshua” which means Salvation.
Christmas is the time of sharing our love and joy with the less privileged. It is a time to demonstrate God’s love to others around us. Today Christmas is more commercialised as it is a time for businesses to make extra money. Santa Claus has taken precedence and everyone wants to join in the fun and the enjoyment season. Though there is nothing wrong in enjoying and being excited, we need to keep in mind the essence of the season and that is JESUS.
Mahatma Gandhi, when he read the Bible, had famously said, I like your Christ but I do not like Christians, as they are so unlike Christ. These words are a powerful reminder of what Christmas has become today, for many of us.
How We can share Christmas with others
Put up a crib in your home
You can have a small crib in your home depicting the nativity scene. Most Christians have a crib as part of their home decorations.
Carol Singing with the choir
Participate in carol singing groups, which bring alive the Christmas story. Both young and old, can join in their school or church carol singing. It brings out the true spirit of Christmas by singing beautiful Christmas carols depicting the birth of Lord Jesus Christ.
Participate in the Church Christmas Skit
You would enjoy being part of the nativity skit, which can have full families participate as shepherd boys, angels, three wise kings and lots of other fun things.
Do Some Charity Work
Think of all the under privileged and lonely people around you. You can give gifts to poor people, your maids, drivers, security guards and many more around you. Giving a simple cake with a smile will brighten their day. Make efforts to bring gifts to all those who have no hope and those who are lonely, depressed and forgotten. This act of yours will touch God’s heart and you will be blessed abundantly.
Volunteer your time with NGO’s like an Orphanage or a Home for the aged
It is a good time to give gifts and volunteer your time in singing and sharing your joy in any orphanage or old age home. Most of the time these people do not receive visitors and so this could be a nice welcome break for them. I have seen some church groups taking toys, gifts and food to these places. They sing Christmas carols and entertain these people by singing and dancing which brings a smile to these lovely people.
Enjoy your family dinner
It is time to enjoy the spirit of Christmas by having a family dinner with your loved ones. God will want you to be surrounded by the people who he has put in your life. God has chosen you to be part of your family and so with a thankful and grateful heart you should spend time with your loved ones.
As we close today, everyone in the family including the children need to truly understand the true essence and significance of Christmas. This understanding will help you enjoy God’s love and blessings and you in turn could be a blessing to those around you. God Bless.
