Successful Habits of Highly Organised People

In today’s fast paced world, we are faced with so many things to do in a limited amount of time. At the end of the day, we still have a list of things which remain incomplete and get carried over to the next day. One of the ways of countering this problem is to cultivate the habit of getting ourselves better organized. In this post, we will talk about the Successful Habits of Highly Organised People.

Often, it is seen that cultivating the habit of being organized requires perseverance, dedication and commitment. Many a time, we have seen people at close quarters who are more organized than us. You may have also seen a close family member, a school friend or a relative who is well organized in their day to day life. They plan, keep things properly and are well ahead of achieving their targets and deadlines and we wonder how these people achieve the same.

Though most of us feel that getting organized is an inherent quality and cannot be developed, in reality, you can definitely work towards being more organized. Being organized is one of the most important things that can help you in being successful. You can cultivate the habit of having an organized lifestyle.

Let us look at some of the habits of highly organized people that can help us in getting better organized in life.

1. Avoid starting your day by immediately looking at your phone.

Many people start their day by immediately reaching out for their phone. This action leads to immediately getting your messages, emails etc, which is not the right thing to do. After getting up, you should thank God and say a small 30 sec prayer for the day, be calm and relaxed for a little time, before actually starting the day.

2. Try and adhere to a simple and effective routine.

Your daily routine should be simple and effective. It should ideally start with a small thanksgiving prayer to God and by watching and appreciating the small things around us. Daily give yourself some time to do the things that you enjoy such as making your own bed, listening to soothing music, hugging your children and blessing them before they leave for school or any other activity like having a small chat with your spouse before you leave for work. Though all these things look small they will have a great impact on your emotional well-being. Further, this helps you to start your day on a positive note.

3. Write down your small daily goals according to your priorities.

One of the key things in getting organized is to write down everything before the day begins. You can broadly write down the “to do” things according to their priority. This will help you in setting aside the required time for achieving these goals. While writing down your goals, also add some buffer time to solve some of the unexpected things that may crop up at the last moment.

Once you are broadly aware of how your day will look like, you will be able to focus on achieving these things better. If for some reason you are not able to achieve your daily goals then you need to have a backup plan for achieving them before they get carried over to the next day and overburden that day’s activities.

4. Try to declutter your workspace.

When you are not organized properly, you tend to lose your focus and waste time. In the process, none of the things get done by the end of the day.

After writing down the “to do” things, take some time to de-clutter your workspace. Start by responding to important and critical emails by prioritizing them.

5. Start your day by doing the most difficult things first.

In the morning your body and mind is fresh. Research has indicated that productivity is the highest in the morning. Once the difficult tasks are done and achieved, you will get a great sense of relief and motivation. This helps in focusing and clearing the remaining activities of the day.

6. Take a break in between your work or daily chores and analyze the situation.

It is important to review and analyze the things pending by midday. Take a small break and look at the pending list. This will give you an idea of the time left and the pending “to do” things. It also helps to speed up the pending things or change the priority of the “to do” things.

7. Try and club activities that can be done together (multitask).

Many a time we will have some activities that can be clubbed and done together. For e.g., if you have to go to the grocery store, try and pay the bills on the way or do it while dropping your children at school. Make a list so that you do not forget the sequence of  “to do” things and thus miss out on some things.

8. Delegate work.

Delegation is an important thing to do inorder to complete your tasks in an organized manner. You can delegate small things to others, thus giving you more time to focus on larger issues.

At home delegate age-appropriate chores to your children and other family members. It will go a long way in raising obedient and confident children and at the same time it will help you in improving your productivity.

9. Try and clear the pending list at the earliest.

No matter how meticulously you plan your day, you will often face unexpected circumstances that will take up your time. When these things happen, your day to day schedule gets disturbed and pending things are bound to move to the next day. Ensure that you do not keep a lot of things pending and accumulated over a period of time but try and resolve them as soon as possible. Constantly clearing pending things will give you more time to spend on things that you love to do. A timely action of clearing pending things will help you to live a more organized and successful life.

10. Take the help of aids to help you in being organized.

With the advancement in technology there are many aids like planners, timers, schedules etc., that can help us in becoming more organized and we should take advantage of the same.

These are some of the ways in which we can get our lives more organized in order to become more successful in life.
