Best street foods to try out in Mumbai

Here are some of my favorite street food joints in Mumbai

Vada Pav at Anand next to Mithibai College

Vada pav is the most popular street food of Maharashtra. It is practically available in every nook and corner and enjoyed by the rich and poor alike. It is nothing but patties made of mashed potato, garlic, chillies and coriander.  Vada pav is then coated with chickpea flour paste and fried golden and then laid in a “humble pav”, with coriander chutney and sprinkled with garlic and chilli powder. If in Mumbai, you should try the vada pav at Anand next to Mithibai college or the ones available outside Dadar station. You could try this speciality in your neighbourhood street as well and there will not be much of a difference in taste.

Kheema Pav at Paramount Mahim

Kheema Pav is one of the more popular breakfast items found in most Mughlai restaurants. It is quite tasty and affordable on the purse. Most of the restaurants in prominent Muslim localities such as Mahim or Mohammad Ali road would have this dish on their menu.

Chicken tikka rolls at Bademiya

The famous chicken tikka rolls of Bademiya will bring back tasty memories. This place is right behind the grand Taj Mahal hotel. You get kebabs, skewers of meat as well as a variety of other dishes.

Tandoori and prawn fry at Jai Jawan

After a tiring day of shopping on Hill road, you will see a long queue of people in front of Jai Jawan. Some of Jai Jawan’s specialities include Tandoori Chicken, Punjabi Prawns Masala, and Punjabi Prawn Fry.

Pav Bhaji and Pani Puri at Elco Arcade

Pav Bhaji is another street food that is specially loved by people of all age groups. You can find pav bhaji stalls at most places. In the case of pani puri, the vendor will put a thumb into a crisp fried sphere, fill it with potato, chickpeas, onions and sprouted lentils. The vendor will then fill it with a sweet-and-sour mix of tamarind and jaggery along with a liquid blend of coriander, mint and garam masala. The Pav Bhaji and Pani Puri at Elco Arcarde is a must have on every foodies list.

Butter Chicken and Tandoori dishes @ Cafe Noorani – Haji Ali

Cafe Noorani offers one of the best butter chicken preparation besides other tandoori and mughlai dishes. This place is full of taste and also light on your pocket.

Chicken Mayo sandwich @ Aaron’s – Orlem Church Malad

You will get tasty patties, puffs, pastries and other non-veg snacks items at Aaron’s. This is one place that you need to try for breakfast.

 Crab @ Mahesh Lunch Home

Mumbai is the seafood capital of Maharashtra. You can try a variety of seafood dishes, right from the humble Mumbai speciality, “Crispy rawa bombil fry” to the butter and garlic crabs. It is one of the best sea food restaurants in the city. This place specialises in seafood and you will love their authentic Mangalorean sea food dishes.

Biscuit Ice cream sandwich @ K. Rustom – Churchgate

This is a must place for ice cream lovers. A no frills Parsi outlet with good taste and value for money offerings. This is one of the oldest ice cream outlets serving its patrons with rich tasty ice creams, without driving a hole in your pocket.

Fish thali at Satkar

The fish thali at Satkar outside Goregoan station (E) is one of the best cheap fish thalis. No wonder Zomato has rated it very good. It has the authentic Malwani touch, which taste just like homemade curries. To add to it, the food is served in steel plates which makes you feel at home.

Joey’s Pizza at Malad West

It is one of the best places for pizzas in the suburbs of Mumbai. This place offers you a variety of Pizzas and other eatables such as Cheese Garlic Bread, Meat Pizza, Spicy Kheema Pizza, Szechuan Chicken Pizza. No other place offers you a great pizza at a great price.

Samosa with chole at Guru Kripa – Sion

Guru Kripa offers one of the best samosas in Mumbai. It is a place to go with family and friends. After having the chole samosa, you must wash it down with a big glass of lassi.

Chinese Thali at Sahibaan, Worli

Sahibaan is located near the Atria Mall, Worli. It is famous for its Chinese thali. The Chinese thali includes soups, starters, fried rice, Manchurian dishes and iced tea. The food served is very tasty and also reasonably priced.
