New Year’s Eve is celebrated throughout the world by many people. It is that time of the year when people do a lot of introspection and cast out the old and look forward to bring in the new. In this article, we will show you some good New Years Eve Party Ideas.

Throwing a great New Years Eve party for friends and family is not such an easy task and can take a lot of time and planning but it’s a great way to spend time with your loved ones. 

Many people have a lot of misconceptions about throwing a perfect New Years Party. They think it’s Time Consuming, A hard and laborious task, and expense. But in this article, we would like to crush these myths and provide you with some sound party planning advice that will allow you to host a New Years Eve party on a shoestring budget.

Decide on the type of party beforehand

Is the party going to be for:

  • children
  • adults
  • senior citizens

Decide on your guest list beforehand. This is the single most important task that will shape your party. 

The more people you invite the most expensive your party will become. So try limiting your guest list to just some close friends and family. Having a close net group is much better than having a large group and will allow your guests to connect with one another easily.

Location, Location, Location

The next step is picking up the right location for your party. The location needs to be easily accessible by the people you invite. 

For eg. if you plan on throwing a party for senior citizens you might not want to host it in a confined space but might want to book a spacious community hall on the ground floor. 

Keep in mind that hosting a party at home; either on your terrace or garden will drastically reduce your costs so you might want to consider that option.

Another cheap option would be to find a camping area and host a barbecue party there. This is great if you’re throwing a party for a small number of people.

Decide on the time and duration of your party

This is a pretty important task that can get done only once you have the information from steps 1 and 2 at hand. 

for eg. If it’s a children’s party you might not want to host it very late or if you have adult guests and if alcohol is served you might want to offer your guests a bed or some place to rest after the party instead of them having to drive back home. Another option would be calling an Uber.

Create a detailed schedule of the party beforehand and share it with your guests. 

Plan some fun activities

You will need to keep your guests engaged so plan some fun activities keeping in mind your target audience.

If children are involved you might want to play some kid-friendly party songs. You might also want to hire a clown or a magician to keep the kids entertained but the more you hire the higher the cost will be.

If you plan on calling an older audience then you could just focus on playing some good music, have a couple of board games, play some BINGO, allow your guests to dance.

If the party you’re throwing has a lot of different age groups involved you might want to make sure that each one is occupied with a suitable activity. However, make sure to let your guests know the type of party they will be attending so that they will come prepared.

Select a Party Theme

Themed parties are in these days especially if you plan on throwing a party for smaller children.

You could throw different types of themed parties like:

a) A Superhero themed party

Here the children come dressed as their favorite superheroes like Batman, Spiderman, the Hulk etc. 

b) A Themed party based on your Childs favorite TV show or Movie

A quick google search will show you the list of kids related movies, you can base your theme party around them.

Over the last couple of years one of the Hit children’s movies was Frozen, so last year we decided to throw a Frozen Themed party. It was a great hit as children came dressed up as their favorite Frozen Character.

To buy relevant decorations you might want to consider your local Thrift or Dollar and Dime stores. They have great discounts on decorations, bonbons, noisemakers, party poppers and other party related stuff.

Amazon also has some pretty good deals on party products.

Send out invitations way ahead of time

You could send out invitations via email, physical post, use Facebook events on social messaging apps like Whatsapp, Facebook messenger etc.

Make sure you include all relevant details like

  • Date and Time
  • Scheduled events and activities
  • If guests need to bring anything for the party

Always ask your friends to RSVP so that you will get an exact number of the people attending your party. Sometimes using email and social media for this could be a quite cumbersome. An option that you could consider would be Evite. Evite is an invitation service app that will allow you to send invitations and easily track RSVPs. A great option to consider if you plan on inviting a lot of people.

Plan ahead of time the Food and Drink that you will serve

Make a list of all the items that you plan on serving during the party. You could also ask your friends to bring some food/drink along as well. This will drastically reduce your expenditure.

Find out ahead of time if your guests are allergic to any type of food. Also, find out their food preferences i.e) Vegan, Paleo etc. Once you have this information you can plan accordingly.

The next step would be to go to your nearest supermarket and purchase the require food and drink 3-4 days before the party.

Expensive crockery versus Paper Plates

 

Paper plates and cups allow cleaning up a whole lot faster especially if you have a large number of guests. You could use your expensive dinnerwear to the serve food.

Music

To bring life to the party music is a must. Before designing a playlist make a note of the type of music your audience might enjoy. You could ask your guests to bring their own music along.

Some Do’s and Dont’s

  • Don’t play the music too loud. This could disturb the neighbors and they could complain to the local authorities
  • Have a good sound system for your party. You might want to see our previous article for more information.
  • Make sure that there are a music and audience match. You might not want to play the latest electronic music for a Senior Citizen party. You could, however, choose the oldies.
  • Have a sing-along. It’s about time to dust out the old guitar and sing songs that everyone loves. 

The Countdown

 

As 12 o clock dawns make sure that everyone is gathered in the living room, or right under the party ball and start the countdown 

10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1 ….

Some people prefer to light firecrackers at the end of the countdown. If you plan on doing that make sure that you take the necessary precautionary steps so that you do not endanger your life or those of your loved ones.

You could also just open a bottle of Chilled Champagne and celebrate.

The Clean Up

Finally, we get to the last part of the New Years Eve party — The Clean Up.

Once the party is over , see that your guests all have a safe trip home. If alcohol is involved then your guests should take a Taxi or Uber instead of driving home.

Put all the food and perishable items in the refrigerator before you go to sleep. You might want to do a quick clean up after your guests and take out the trash. If any food or drink was spilled during the party you might want to take care of that right away.
