Nail Care Routine

Nails are very important for women, as they make their hands look elegant and feminine. We all want our hands to be neat, clean and pretty. It is a misconception that you need to go to salon or spa to have beautiful nails. Healthy nails are a reflection of a) what you eat (balanced diet), b) good personal hygiene and c) proper beauty care. In this article, we’ll talk about my personal Nail Care Routine.

My Nail Care Routine

1. Eat a healthy balanced diet.

Eating a well-balanced diet is the most important part of a healthy lifestyle. A lack of vitamins and minerals lead to deficiencies, which reflect on the nails. One of the first things that a doctor does is to check your nails. By just looking at your nails the doctor is able to briefly diagnose your medical condition.

Ensure that your daily diet is filled with fresh fruits, vegetables, protein-rich lean meats, legumes, nuts and low-calorie dairy products. Eating foods that are rich in vitamin B, zinc, calcium etc., helps in reducing brittleness, white spots, dryness etc. A good healthy diet with lots of water will reflect in your pink and strong nails.

2. Always use a good moisturiser, oil or lotion.

It is important to rub the moisturiser on your hands, cuticles and nails regularly. Excessive use of soap, hand wash or sanitizer can dry the skin. It would be good to rub olive oil or coconut oil or almond oil on your hands, nails and cuticles regularly.

Take good care of your cuticles and avoid getting them trimmed. They are supposed to be a barrier for bacteria, so just trim the dead skin and not the cuticles.

3. Keep your nails clean and trimmed.

Try and keep your nails clean and trimmed. You can clean your nails by dipping a wet toothbrush into baking soda and then scrubbing each nail. Further, you can add a few drops of lemon juice to give the whitening effect.

So trim the nails and file them in one direction. Filing the nails in a back and forth direction will make the nails weak. Always file from the outside edge of the nail inwards. Further, keep the length of the nails only up to what you are comfortable with. Breaking long nails are painful.

4. Use good nail polish with fewer chemicals.

Most nail polishes are filled with chemicals, which makes it even more harmful. You can try more organic and chemical free nail polish options available in the market. There are many water-based nail polishes which do not last long but also do not contain harmful chemicals. Further, almost all nail polish removers have acetone, which makes your skin dry. So try using a non-acetone nail polish remover.

5. Use rubber gloves for household work.

Most women have to do most of the household work. It is important to wear gloves while cleaning the house or washing the dishes. The chemicals using in cleaning agents or detergents are very strong and can damage your hands and nails. Wearing gloves will protect your hands and nails from harmful chemical damage.

6. Leave your nails alone for some time.

Most of the time we are constantly pricking, filing our nails, biting our nails or even pulling out hard things with the help of our nails. It is advisable to leave your nails alone so that they remain healthy. Avoid biting nails or pulling out hard things as they will damage the nails.
