Working women get very little time to take care of their body. They are so busy with work that they fail to eat the right nutritious food at the right time and end up consuming more of junk food. As a result their bodies becomes lethargic and their skin becomes dry. The body needs time to heal and rejuvenate. Cleansing of the blood is important as it carries hormones, oxygen and sugar to the cells and also helps in removing waste products. One of the best ways to detoxify the body is to make the body cleanse naturally and the simplest way to do so is to consume only fruits and vegetables for 3-4 days.
Here are some of the most common foods highly recommended for detoxification:
• Fresh vegetables and fruits
• Vegetable and fruit juices
• Fresh Water
These foods are easily digestible and help in eliminating and flushing out the toxins from the body. The easiest way to start the detox process is by trying out fresh green juices. Some of these juices include spinach, lettuce, parsley etc.
Now let us look at the nutritional value of these fruits and vegetables –
Broccoli is one of the most important blood purifying foods that helps to remove the harmful toxins from the body. This green vegetable is loaded with vitamin C, calcium, vitamin K, potassium and phosphorus. The presence of calcium and vitamin K helps to improve the bone health considerably, which in turn helps in preventing osteoporosis.
Cabbage is good for the skin. It helps in detoxing and neutralizing the damage caused by free radicals. While there are various types of cabbages, green cabbage is the most common one found in India. It is a good source of fiber, Vitamin D, foliate, calcium (for strong bones) and potassium.
Green Tea helps in purifying the blood and thus helps in preventing wrinkles and skin aging. It has also been shown to increase fat loss by boosting the metabolic rate thus enabling one to burn fat faster.
Beet fiber helps in reducing cholesterol and triglycerides by increasing the level of HDL cholesterol i.e. “good” cholesterol. The consumption of beetroot helps to prevent cardiovascular diseases. Beets also contain a significant amount of carbohydrates that provide fuel and energy for prolonged sports activities.
Red apples contain an antioxidant called quercetin which helps in boosting the immune system. It is said that apples prevent cancer, strokes, diarrhoea, constipation and high cholesterol. Crunchy fruits like apples also help in maintaining white teeth.
One of the most important benefits of flax seeds is that they have high levels of mucilage gum. Mucilage is a gel forming, water soluble fiber which has incredible benefits on the intestinal tract and digestive system. Mucilage helps in keeping the food in the stomach and thus prevents the food from emptying too quickly into the small intestine. This results in the increase in nutrient absorption. Flax-seed is full of healthy fats and fiber, which in turn helps in feeling full for a longer time thus reducing ones urge to eat more.
Carrot contains beta-carotene, which helps in restoring the vision by correcting the vitamin A deficiency. The antioxidants and nutrients in carrots help in blood sugar regulation, which in turn helps in increasing our immunity. The consumption of carrots keeps the skin healthy and vibrant as they contain Vitamin C. Carrots can also be used to make a convenient homemade face mask to get glowing skin.
